What a Difference a Year Makes!

Well, this week marks the start of a new school year, and although it’s been awhile since we have been heading back to class ourselves, we think of early September as a time for fresh starts and new beginnings. It’s also a time to reflect on the last year…

We think it’s remarkable that last summer, Kate was still a private citizen, working at her parents’ company, Party Pieces, in a converted barn in Berkshire, wearing high street outfits and shopping without security officers, without a sapphire engagement ring in sight.

One of our favourite Kate sightings last summer was at this polo match below:

Let’s think about this for a moment. Here’s Kate looking lovely and relaxed, enjoying a day out with friends and William.

Now, let’s compare this sporty outing, to another, below, at the June 2011 Epsom Derby alongside William and Harry.

Admittedly, the Epsom Derby is a more formal affair. However, let’s spot the differences, shall we?

1) Hair: Loose and blow-dried at home vs. Coiffed courtesy of James Pryce, Richard Ward Salon (Kate’s hairdresser)

2) Proximity to William: Prior to the November engagement, Kate was rarely spotted in the same frame as William, especially not at a semi-royal event (more on this in another post). Here, they are happily snapped together.

3) Smile: Prior to the engagement, Kate was papped several times a week. She was often smiling, but rarely full on grinning like this. (more on this in another post)

4) Put together-ness: Overall, her Epsom Derby appearance was an example of Classic-Kate-Princess-Perfection. She looks amazing at the polo as well, don’t get me wrong, but less ‘polished’. Kate is perma-polished now whenever we see her. Not a hair out of place!

So, given that so much has happened this year, what will this new school year bring? We have a few ideas…let us know yours in the comments!
