UPDATED: Kate & William at St. James’ Palace (Kate’s 3rd Evening Gown Appearance as HRH!)

Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were guests of honour at a gala event at St. James’s Palace. According to the Press Association, the philanthropic organisation 100 Women in Hedge Funds raised more than £675,000 by staging the black-tie do in support of the Child Bereavement Charity. Prince William has been a patron of the charity since 2009 and is also a patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds which he took on in January 2010 as a three year commitment. Check out the 100 Women in Hedge Funds website for their pictures of this event here.

In his speech, Prince William said, “What you are both doing together to alleviate the suffering of children who have lost family members, and bereaved families who have experienced the tragedy of losing a child, is beyond praise. The Child Bereavement Charity has now directly helped thousands of families. This year too, the charity has brought its compassion and experience to the aid of bereaved military families, whose children suffer so much – in a way, for all of our sakes. I thank you for doing this from the bottom of my heart. You have all been wonderfully supportive of this cause, which is so close to our hearts.”

It looks like the room where the pictures were taken is the same one that Kate and William had their engagement portraits done, doesn’t it? The same green damask wallpaper. Well, the engagement shots were taken at St. James’s Palace so it could be…

And now onto the clothes! Kate continued to support British designers. Her dress is by Beulah London and you can check out the company’s website by clicking here. The company has already updated their website to show that it was the ‘Sarai Dress”, from the Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection was “Worn by Kate Middleton” and includes a picture from the event. Of course, this isn’t exactly true since she is now the Duchess of Cambridge. Check that out here.  [UPDATE: The website now says ‘As Worn by the Duchess of Cambridge’.]

UPDATE: Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs is married to Rupert Finch, who once dated Kate at St. Andrews. Here is a picture of the couple arriving at Will and Kate’s wedding in April:

And a picture of the two designers, Natasha Rufus Isaacs  and Lavinia Brennan. Look’s like Lavinia is wearing Kate’s dress!

It’s nice of Kate to support her friends, and rather interesting that she would allow them to post her name on their website. It’s as though she is giving her endorsement, which any brand would go nuts for…we do wonder though, did the courtiers OK that? This is a brand with a strong charity focus, so if she’s going to support a label, this was a good choice.

Beulah London had a big night last night. Here’s a picture of Pippa Middleton at the Too Many Women in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Pippa is pictured with Katie Readmanwho works for Issa and is wearing Beulah as well:

And, back to Kate’s dress! Here’s the dress shown from the website. It is currently priced at 565 pounds:

Onto our critique of the dress: it’s great to see Kate wearing colour! This red is gorgeous on her and the cut, with the defined waist is very flattering on her. The bodice is very similar to her the blue Issa dress Kate wore when she and William announced their engagement: form fitting and with a flattering v-neck. Overall, the gown just seems a bit 1970’s with those sleeves…it just isn’t an overall favourite but Kate does look fantastic in it. Wish we could see what she has o nher feet, though the gown perfectly skims the floor. She is carrying a sparkly gold clutch we haven’t identified yet…

We don’t have a clear shot, but it looks like Kate is wearing her Tiffany mesh earrings. You can check them out on the Tiffany site here and see for yourself.

This dress definitely fits what we know Kate likes – a long, slim silhouette that isn’t too revelealing. Not including her two wedding gowns, this is Kate’s third appearance in a full length gown as HRH. For fun, here are the first two ‘Royal Gown Appearances’:

At the ARK Gala in London, Kate wore a pink, sparkly Jenny Packham number:

At the BAFTA event in Los Angeles Kate wore McQueen which had been spied during the Canadian leg of the tour (see it here with the belt on the hanger?):

And the lovely appearance:

Kate also wore similar silhouettes at the Boodles Ball in years past and Pippa wore a long red gown to this year’s event.  There’s more info here as well. Wonder if we’ll ever see Kate wear an A-line dress at an event such as this?

Hope to see you again soon, William and Kate!
