The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hosted another black tie evening at St. James Palace tonight. It was no coincidence that tomorrow (November 11) is Remembrance Day and the dinner was in support of the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) Appeal. According to the NMA website, “The NMA Appeal was set up to ensure that the necessary facilities for widows, families, comrades and the public were provided. In time, the National Memorial Arboretum seeks to become a world class Centre for Remembrance.”
William has been patron of this organization since April 2009. To read more about the organization on their official website, click here. William gave a short speech to start the evening off. If you’d like to hear the speech, BBC reporter Peter Hunt provided this link on his twitter feed; sounds like he or someone else at the dinner just might have taped it on their iPhone!
Here’s William launching the Appeal on April 24, 2009:
We are happy to see that both Wiliiam and Kate wore poppies to the event. The tradition of wearing poppies in November is very strong in Commonwealth countries. For our American friends who may not be familiar with this tradition, the poppy became a symbol of remembrance due to the poppies that grew in the fields where slain WWI soldiers were buried. Check out the UK Poppy Appeal by clicking here and the Royal Canadian Legion appeal by clicking here.
Here’s a close up of what the UK poppies look like:
Kate pulled out yet another long, column dress that accentuates her waist. The savvy folks over on the What Kate Wore facebook page identified the dress as a Jenny Packham gown really quickly. Three cheers for them!!! Angelina Jolie wore the dress in red to the Tree of Life premier last December. It certainly does look the same as Kate’s dress. Still waiting for confirmation from Jenny Packham, though…
Kate is also wearing some SERIOUS bling on her ears. Like, wow. At first we though they might be the ones that Kate wore Los Angeles at the BAFTA event…but when comparing the two, they are definitely different. Perhaps a loan from the Queen?
And another look:
To compare, here’s a close up of Kate’s earrings from the LA BAFTA event:
We’ll keep researching to see if we can identify these earrings from the Queen’s collection or somewhere else. In the meantime, here’s to hoping Kate brings out her wedding earrings again soon. They deserve another appearance, stat!
The other piece of jewelry that Kate is wearing we do recognize – the diamond bracelet that first appeared during their North American tour was pulled out once again!
More info as it comes!
In the meantime, let’s recap the gowns Kate has worn since becoming HRH, in order. There are five so far, including tonight’s appearance.
1. Here she is in Jenny Packham:
3. And in Beulah London. For a refresher of our post on this event, click here.
4. And here she is in Amanda Wakely during her first solo engagement. To read our post on that, click here.
